Lesley Roy is an Irish singer-songwriter. She should have represented her country with the song Story of My Life at the ESC 2020 in Rotterdam, which was cancelled in March 2020. Instead, she will compete at ESC 2021 with the song Maps. n the age of seven, she began learning to play the guitar. At 15, she recorded her first demos. In 2008, Roy released her debut album Unbeautiful, produced by Max Martin, on the record label Jive Records. About the song "Maps"

Maps (Spanish for maps) is a pop song with which singer Lesley Roy will represent Ireland at ESC 2021 in Rotterdam. She wrote it with Emilie Eriksson, Lukas Hällgren and Philip Strand. The track was written specifically for the competition, she said. The singer describes Maps as heartfelt and uplifting. The song lyrics talk about how the singer has been looking for the wrong places all this time, and there is only one way back home. Preselection

Until 2015, all Irish representatives were chosen in a preliminary competition. From 1965-1986, with the exception of 1983 when Ireland did not participate, the National Song Contest was held every year. From 1987-2001 the Eurosong served to determine the Irish representative. From 2003-2005 the casting show You're a Star was used to determine the Irish representative. From 2006-2007 the representatives were selected internally. From 2008-2015 the Eurosong took place again. Since 2016, the Irish broadcaster selects its representatives and their songs internally. #eurovision #ireland #2021

    The 65th Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to take place at the Ahoy Arena in the Dutch city of Rotterdam between May 18 and 22, 2021. After the Netherlands won the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest and the 2020 event in Rotterdam was cancelled due to the COVID 19 pandemic, the Eurovision Song Contest is now scheduled to take place there in 2021.
