On February 27, 2020, the BBC announced that the singer James Newman will represent the United Kingdom at the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam, Netherlands. His song My Last Breath, which was written by Adam Argyle, Ed Drewett, Iain James and Newman himself, was released on the same day. However, the contest had to be cancelled on March 18, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
