Seoul

Seoul is South Korea’s capital and also its largest city.It is relatively small, with an area of about 600 square kilometres, but having a population of over 10 million makes it is one of the world’s most densely populated cities. It is densely populated not only in terms of people but also in terms of vehicles–about three million of them regularly cause widespread traffic jams. The Seoul National Capital Area–Seoul’s commuter belt–has a populace of over 20 million. Around one-quarter of South Korea’s entire population lives in and around Seoul, which is located in the northwest of the country

Castles Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau

In my languages’ classroom at school in England, the teacher had put up a tourist poster of an amazing fantasy castle which I later found out was called ‘Neuschwanstein’. As an adult I was able to visit this enchanting 19th century dream palace of King Ludwig II of Bavaria, one of many built by this mysterious and castle-obsessed monarch. #neuschwanstein #bavaria #castle #king #ludwig

#neuschwanstein #bavaria #castle #king #ludwig

Salzburg

From the 8th century, barges carrying salt on the River Salzach had to pay a toll, and in 1077 the authorities built a “salt castle” (or “salz burg” in German) to control the river trade. Formerly part of the Roman Empire as the city of “Juvavum”, Salzburg prospered in the medieval period and many Romanesque and Gothic churches and monasteries were built, along with Hohensalzburg Castle, situated, as its name suggests, on top of the Festungberg, the highest point within the city. #travel #austria #salzburg #history #europe

Rotterdam

Rotterdam is one of the few thoroughly modern cities in Holland, offering adventuresome modern architecture and delightful culture. The city centre, apart from the City Hall, was almost completely destroyed by bombing in World War II, so had to be gradually rebuilt from the 1950s on. #rotterdam #netherlands #architecture #modern #culture
